Former CEO John W. Lindsay Named 2026 TU Engineering Hall of Fame Inductee
John Lindsay, former president and CEO of H&P, was recognized April 24 as a 2026 inductee into The University of Tulsa College of Engineering & Computer Science Hall of Fame, the college’s highest honor for alumni.
Lindsay, who led H&P from 2014 until his retirement earlier this year, was honored alongside Katherine Wallgren and David Iverson during a ceremony at the University of Tulsa’s Lorton Performance Center. Inductees are selected for outstanding leadership, advancement of engineering and science disciplines, and meaningful community contributions.
A 1987 graduate of University of Tulsa with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, Lindsay joined H&P in the same year as a drilling engineer. Early in his career, he helped develop the Flex3, the first alternating-current drive land rig — a breakthrough that transformed the land drilling market and set the foundation for H&P’s long-term leadership in drilling innovation.
Over nearly four decades with the company, Lindsay rose through the ranks, championing a culture centered on technology, safety and people. During his tenure as CEO, H&P expanded its global footprint and capabilities through strategic acquisitions, including multiple drilling software companies and KCA Deutag, establishing the company as a leading global drilling solutions provider.
“The importance of Doing The Right Thing, the importance of safety, the importance of taking care of people — it’s the top goal,” Lindsay said during the ceremony.
Beyond his professional achievements, Lindsay has remained deeply engaged in the Tulsa community, serving on boards including the Girl Scouts of Oklahoma, the Tulsa Regional Chamber and The Nature Conservancy Oklahoma. He also continues to support University of Tulsa as a member of the McDougall School of Petroleum Engineering Industry Advisory Board.
“I’ve always been proud to say that I’m a graduate of The University of Tulsa,” Lindsay said.
The 2026 Hall of Fame class also includes Wallgren, president and general manager for Oxy’s Delaware Basin operations and a longtime University of Tulsa advisor, and Iverson, senior managing director at Kayne Anderson and a chemical engineering alumnus. Together, the inductees represent the college’s legacy of producing leaders who drive innovation while giving back to their professions and communities.
