H&P Journey: Chris Lemons
Chris Lemons’ journey with H&P is a testament to the diverse opportunities and growth potential within the company. Born in Germany to a military family, his childhood was marked by frequent moves, eventually settling in Southern Oklahoma. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in economics, Lemons explored various career paths before joining H&P in January 2013 as part of the Well Control Equipment Group.
“Many of my colleagues spoke highly of H&P, expressing their hopes to work there someday. Those comments resonated with me,” Lemons recalled his decision to join the company.
Over the next few years, Chris worked across various locations, including South Texas, West Texas and Colorado. His adaptability and leadership skills led to increasingly responsible positions, including Well Control Systems Superintendent and Business Operations Manager for FlexServices.
Reflecting on his journey, Lemons said, “My experiences have fostered a commitment to helping field personnel realize their potential and succeed. Despite taking on more administrative roles recently, my primary passion remains in operations.”
In 2022, Chris took a significant step in his career by accepting the position of Business Operations Manager in Abu Dhabi.
“After discussing the opportunity with my family—my wife Jolanda, my son Preston, and my daughter Lily, who have always been incredibly supportive of my career — we decided to embrace the chance to live internationally and explore a new part of the world,” Lemons explained.
The role in Abu Dhabi presented unique challenges and opportunities.
“My role as business operations manager is undoubtedly the most challenging position I’ve held in my career. Each day involved a variety of responsibilities that are crucial to our operations in Abu Dhabi’s complex oil market,” noted Lemons.
Recently, Chris transitioned to a new role as well control superintendent, supporting H&P’s operation with Saudi Aramco in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This move further solidifies his commitment to H&P’s global strategy.
“If you’re looking to experience something new and exciting, see more of the world, and be part of H&P’s strategy to ‘Grow Global,’ I highly encourage exploring these opportunities. Working internationally is undoubtedly challenging — it may be the hardest job you’ll have at H&P — but it’s also incredibly rewarding.”
For H&P employees considering international roles, Lemons offered valuable advice: “Start by having open discussions with your supervisor and people already on the ground in the countries you’re considering. This will help you understand the unique challenges of working internationally.”
Throughout his journey, Lemons has come to appreciate the unique culture at H&P. He remarked, “My experience in Abu Dhabi has underscored the importance of effective communication, flexibility and a strong support network in overcoming operational challenges. It’s given me a deeper appreciation for the robust processes, support systems and team-oriented culture that H&P offers.”
