H&P Upgrades Rig for Phoenix Global Resources
H&P has completed a full OMRON conversion on Rig 234 for Phoenix Global Resources (PGR). Rig 234 and Rig 230 are currently operating in Vaca Muerta in Argentina.
The upgrade is a full modernization of the control system, which includes the VFD House, MCC House, Drawworks, Rig floor and driller’s cabin. H&P’s technology suite has also been enabled. FlexTorque® for stick-slip mitigation, Flex Oscillator, FlexB2D 2.0® to allow consistent bit engagement and weight transfer to maximize ROP, Autodriller Pro and other Flex Apps make up the suite.
Rig 234 spud its first well in January and is the first H&P rig of this stature in Argentina. Rig 230 will also receive a full upgrade this year.
Standardizing the control system, rig equipment and technology suite across Rig 230 and Rig 234 will enable our distinctive capabilities to increase operational consistency, reduce variability, lower NPT and maximize performance. The upgrades provide a strong foundation for automation scaling and continuous improvement while supporting performance-driven operations across the fleet.
“We had a very competent and very committed professional team,” Jorge Rojas, regional director, Latin America operations, said. “Anywhere from engineering, operations, maintenance, logistics, and supply chain, was involved with the project were fully committed. Best demonstration of the H&P Way and team of teams effort.”
PGR and H&P have had continuous operations since 2021, beginning with Rig 230.
All crews were trained on the new technology and operational changes prior to drilling. Driller Performance Academy, typically hosted at our headquarters in Tulsa, Oklahoma, brought the valuable information and expertise to the crews in Argentina.
“This was the first time they saw this type of information delivered and they really enjoyed it. Everybody is pumped up in Argentina to do a great job,” Rojas said.
The simultaneous operation of Rig 230 and Rig 234 under the OMRON system represents a new milestone in the unrivaled partnership between PGR and H&P, reinforcing the shared commitment to efficiency, innovation, and operational excellence.
